15 Ways to Celebrate Easter at Home

March 28, 2020

With Easter coming up in two weeks, many families are left wondering how they are going to celebrate. While this year's Easter celebration is going to look different this year, it doesn't mean we can't celebrate. Start planning now for a memorable time with family. Here are some ideas and ways to celebrate at home with your family this year.

1. Video calls to family. Phone calls for those who can't do video calls.

2. Watch mass on TV or online.

3. Have an egg hunt. Many of us probably have eggs hiding somewhere from a previous year, but if you don't, get creative and make some! Cut out eggs on paper and decorate them and take turns hiding them and finding them.

4. Read the Easter story with your family from the Bible and talk about what it means to you.

5. Fill those Easter baskets. How? Add a few candy items on your grocery order. Schedule a grocery order for delivery from Target and add on the items you would normally fill your basket with. If you have a family with siblings have each sibling look for something they have outgrown to give each other in a basket. Make coupons and fill the basket with IOUs. Think of all the things you would like to do once it's safe to go back out and make coupons they can redeem to do those activities. Order things like cake mix, cookie mix, and icing and fill the basket with those items to make as a family while you are home. There are so many ways to get creative!

6. Have a dance party. Stream some Easter songs and dance away.

7. Go on a spring walk, making sure to social distance, and point to all of the signs of spring. You could even make your own scavenger hunt to go with it.

8. Watch an Easter movie or show as a family.

9. Cook your Easter meal together. It may not be your traditional meal, but again get creative and make it fun! Maybe it's even mac and cheese!

10. Decorate your house for the celebration. Make your own drawings and inspirational messages and hang them up for you all to enjoy.

11. Have your own Easter parade. Get dressed up and parade around the house and your yard. If you want to make it even more fun, make your own bonnets to wear!

12. If you have eggs, dye them. If they are plastic eggs, decorate them.

13. Listen to or read Easter themed books online.

14. Make cards to mail to family members to add a little cheer.

15. Create an Easter scene in your front window that others can see while walking by. Add some cheer to your neighborhood.
