Calmus Vocal Ensemble
Saturday, December 14, 2019, 7:30 pm
“Stunning in its vocal variety and mastery.” (The Washington Post)
Candlelight Concerts brings to the stage a vocal ensemble of rare distinction – a unique combination of a pure soprano voice with four male voices ranging from counter-tenor to bass, with the most impressive of pedigrees and a plethora of prize-winning performances. Calmus embodies the rich choral tradition of its hometown of Leipzig, Germany, the city of Bach, Mendelssohn and Robert and Clara Schumann. All members are graduates of Leipzig’s renowned St. Thomas Church Choir School and are shaped by the centuries-old tradition of German boys’ choirs.
Calmus will be sharing with Candlelight concertgoers a program of seasonal song, featuring holiday music from around the world, from the carol- and choral-rich traditions of England and Germany, to a traditional piece from Puerto Rico. Having won many of Europe’s most distinguished choral competitions, including the International Robert Schumann Choral Competition and Germany’s national a cappella contest, they will win you over too. “Nothing short
of remarkable... they, quite simply, bring whatever they sing to glorious life.” (Desert Morning News)
