My family and I went to Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C. last weekend. We had an amazing time! I am so excited to tell you what I learned about King Tut and our visit.

Here's what I learned about King Tut at Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience:
- He became King of Egypt when he was 9! I can't believe that because I'm almost 9 and I don't think I could handle ruling all of Egypt.
- He died when he was only 19 years old, which is also so young! It’s not known why he died at such a young age - it could have been malaria or an infection.
- Did you know tombs are underground and beautifully decorated?
- King Tut's tomb was untouched for 3,245 years! That's a long time!
- This year is the 100th year of the discovery of the tomb of King Tut.
- Ancient Egyptians believed in life after death. Because of this, many items that a king would need in his afterlife were placed with him in his tomb.
- King Tut's organs - his liver, heart, brain and many more - were placed in canopic jars in his tomb.
- Do you wonder how they got his brain out? Well I know! They took a hook and shoved it up his nose and took his brain out.
My favorite parts of the exhibit were:
- The movie that explained what Egyptians believed you had to do to get to the afterlife. The movie was in a huge room with video screens everywhere!
- The room that has a reproduction of King Tut's sarcophagus in it. I now know that a sarcophagus is a beautifully decorated, huge container that holds a coffin.
- Looking at King Tut's incredibly decorated, solid gold King Tut burial mask, which was inside his coffin.
Here are a few fun facts about King Tut:
- He had broken leg when he died.
- He was named after the sun god Amun.
- He married his half sister Ankhesenamun.
Some things you should know before visiting:
- When you first enter, you watch a quick 3 minute video with no doors open, and darkness everywhere.
- The inside was like a maze that you had to walk through.
- There is a break in the middle for bathrooms.
- Toward the end of the exhibit, there are a lot of flashing lights with a warning for anybody who is photosensitive.
- A lot of the exhibit requires reading, so I would recommend it to children ages 6 and up
