ACCLAIMED ISRAELI MUSICIANS TO PERFORM IN HOWARD COUNTY
The Candlelight Concert Society brings to Howard County a special narrated concert program, featuring the Jerusalem String Quartet and WBJC-FM radio host Jonathan Palevsky.
Founded in 1995 by a group of Israeli teenagers, the Jerusalem String Quartet has since grown into an international sensation. The New York Times described the quartet’s work as “Passion, precision, warmth, [and] a gold blend,” while BBC Music Magazine gushed that “Their playing has everything you could possibly wish for.” The Quartet has won numerous awards for its renditions of works by Haydn, Schubert, Debussy, and more. In 2019, the Quartet also released a unique album exploring Jewish music in Central Europe between the wars and its far-reaching influence.
The Quartet will perform on Apr 23, 4:00 PM EDT, at HCC’s Horowitz Smith Theatre. Following the thematic thread of their most recent album, the Quartet will present a program called Music Under Tyranny, featuring works by composers who wrote under oppressive political regimes.
“It’s a very powerful program,” Irina Kaplan Lande, Candlelight’s Artistic Director, said. “It speaks very much to the world as it is right now.”
In addition to presenting moving works by Shostakovich, Bartók, and Prokofiev, the program will be narrated by Jonathan Palevsky, radio host of WBJC-FM in Baltimore. Palevsky is a frequent collaborator of Candlelight’s, most notably as the narrator in Candlelight’s robust classical music podcast library. His contribution to the concert will ensure a family-friendly and educational event, in addition to a world-class musical performance.
Tickets for the event cost $45 per show. With the purchase of one adult ticket, an accompanying child up to age 17 will receive a ticket free of charge. Student tickets cost $10, and tickets for groups of 10 or more cost $35 per person. Get tickets HERE.
