5 Fun Fall Nature Walks to Try

Enjoying the Beauty of Nature

September 19, 2025

Fall is a great time to get outside and explore nature. Fun for all ages, there is always something to see and learn. Try out some of these variations of a nature hunt and see which one you enjoy the most.

Fall Leaf Fun

-On this nature walk, check out all of the different falls leaves and colors. Collect at least 5 different types of leaves and take them home. Once you get home, try to identify the type of tree they came from. Look at the colors of the leaves and check out their differences. Grab some paper and crayons and do leaf rubbings. If you don't know what that is, you put the leaf under a piece of paper and use the side of a crayon to rub the leaf. This will create an outline of the leaf on your paper. Get creative and make some beautiful fall art work!

Sight and Sound Nature Walk

-This nature walk is all about your senses. Take the time to really look around at all of the nature around you. Stop and take some deep breaths. What do you smell? Enjoy that fresh air! Take a blanket with you and sit down to listen to nature. Look up at the sky and the clouds while listening to all of the fall sounds. Do you recognize any? What animals do you hear? Do you hear the crunching of leaves under someone's feet? Be still in the moment and allow your senses to guide you.

Pinecone Walk

-The goal of this walk is to find some beautiful pinecones that you can take home and turn into fall/winter decor or even Christmas gifts. You can make so many different things with pinecones. Put together your own wreath. Make your own scented pinecones. Add some drops of glue and glitter to make ornaments. Cover in peanut butter and bird seed to make your own bird feeder. The possibilities are endless and imaginations can run wild.

Rock Collecting Walk

-On this walk, try to collect rocks that are different from each other. You can also try finding rocks that are big and smooth to make Kindness Rocks. Research the types of rocks you found and where they came from/how they were formed. I bet you will find out something new. If you decide to make Kindness Rocks, you can take another walk to hide them for others to find. On both walks, see if you can find any Kindness Rocks.

Little Free Library Nature Walk

-Check out the Little Free Library website for libraries near you. Take some old books to donate or just stop by and see if you can find one and grab a book to read. Sit outside and read in nature. See if you can make a connection between the book you chose and nature.

Come up with your own theme and go on a nature walk. Get creative! The opportunities are endless.
